The Application of Opiates in Cardiovascular Surgery
Opiates have synergy with other medications and so if you're using an opiate infusion you can reduce the amount of inhaled agent or propofol that you need by up to 50%. Opiates can also be used in high dose as a near-soul anesthetic for cardiac surgery. Another application of opioids is transdermal use, most common seen here is the fentanyl patch.
