"I'm always embarrassed when readers and discerning critics like you credit with me with more intelligence and more forethought that I am possessed with," she says. "In medicine, you know, you have to be careful, it's a trap but sometimes you just have a gut sense about something you're hearing." In the audio book of her new novel, he finds himself at times moved as he was in the writing and the revising by certain scenes. He also learns how to convey different people's dialogues by slight inflections of pitch and tone and voice without overdoing it.
