Aristotle's Theory of Form and Matter
Aristotle studied with Plato, who had a theory of forms. The things we see around us are hyalomorphic - composed of both matter and form. So the animals have forms which are here around us in the world. We can study them because they're close at hand. And we can get to know the form.
