I'm inclined to see the doctrine of hell as an expression of God's justice and holiness rather than an expression of his love. We'll talk more about the fate of the damned after death. The word is here is not an is of identity. As Clinton says, it all depends on what the meaning of the word is. So for example, you could say Cicero is Tully. That is, say, that's an identity statement. Those were two names of the same person. But if you said Cicero is the greatest Roman orator, that's a predication. It's ascribing a property or an attribute to Cicero. And similarly here, as Bruce says
