In the future, we're going to be able to compile custom circuits from the LERC surface language into efficient circuits. And this is going to be the thing that actually cuts down on that development time and gives you both sides of the picture. But that's a little ways off. We don't want the general edge proof to be owned by cryptographers forever. But we do want to give them the joy of making their work in writing a specialized circuit relevant to a much larger class of proof programmers.
