The Bottleneck of Clinical Trials
A clinical trial is where you take a group of people and randomly separate them into two groups. You give one group the intervention, so the pill or the diet or whatever. The other group gets its usual care, but you try to have it be as close as possible to the intervention group. Drugs cannot be approved without a clinical trial. That's the gold standard. And the next thing down the evidence pyramid ladder are observational studies which follow a group over time. They can't adjust for sugar consumption because they do not account for all desserts and sweets.
