Does a Tree Fall in a Forest Make a Sound?

Richard challenge accepted this question, whether a tree falling in a forest actually makes a sound if no one's there to hear it. It is usually associated with an irish bishop from the seventeenth century called george berkeley. Berkeley took a pretty extreme position on the nature of reality. He believed that things like tables and chairs and trees are just ideas, and they aren't really there. In fact, they don't exist at all without the presence of a mind.
