What Are Some of the Skills From Short Stories That You Should Put Into Novels?
Short stories are good for idea development, but long fiction is better at world-building. The more novels you've written the faster and easier it's going to be to do small world building in a novel. Short stories help short stories because they don't have as many chances to develop ideas that aren't there in longer works.
