In the late 1950s, a psychologist at Harvard studied how people deal with stressful interpersonal disputation. The subjects were 22 Harvard sophomores and he hand-picked them based on their psychological profiles. He asked them to write out their philosophy of life before being paired up with another student who's gone through the same exercise.
