CHAPTER

The 19 Forty Eight British Nationality Act

The 19 forty eight british nationality act was designed to give a kind of imperial cohere ance to briton's post war identity. The citizenship is not tied to the territory of the british isles itself. It's actually a much broader citizenship, which is tied to wider territories tho crown colonies and independent commonwealth states like india and australia. When the law was passed, there was very little expectation that it would actually lead to the kind of match migration that did occur. This was a time when migration was expensive, and british lawmakers were focused on other things. They were focused on giving the post war commonwealth an imperial identity.
