This is kind of where we're starting to understand a little bit about genetics and epigenetics. The third reason why this is really important is because it sort of gives us a clue how these conditions develop or potentially how to help these people. So for example, one of the theories that people have posited, which I place a lot of emphasis in just based on my clinical work, is that people with autism spectrum disorder have difficulty mentalizing.
