This is kind of where we're starting to understand a little bit about genetics and epigenetics. The third reason why this is really important is because it sort of gives us a clue how these conditions develop or potentially how to help these people. So for example, one of the theories that people have posited, which I place a lot of emphasis in just based on my clinical work, is that people with autism spectrum disorder have difficulty mentalizing. That's not only the actions that other people commit, but our own actions.
