Anxiety Is a Common Thing in Japanese Society
Japan is indeed for me a kind of future oriented figure. This contrasts a bit with the anthropologist Marilyn Ivey's work who produced what to my mind was quite a brilliant and rich critique of Japanese national culture. She very much focused on a kind of national sentiment that was grounded in sentiments of nostalgia. And essentially what this cultural logic was was sort of this reproduction of a sense of loss.
