Son of Man - Is He a King?

In Daniel 7, the Son of Man appears as taken up in a sense on the clouds before God. But here Jesus is saying that the Son of man is on Earth. And so he's saying he's the son of man. So when Jesus refers to himself as son of man, it's not a self-effacing kind of awestruck's humble title, is it? He's referring to himself as the Messiah of Israel for those who have ears to hear.
