There's a famous data set by Holzinger and Swineford that are often used in demonstrating exploratory factor analysis. They would give items to assess various aspects of cognitive functioning. Raymond Cattell, who was a Titan in this field advocated for parcels back in the day. You can even think about ties back to Chromebook in the 1950s of split half reliability where you randomly take items form a composite and look at the correlations between the two.
