The Problem With Derivational Elements
English is a great example because of the mystifying idea of stress timing versus syllable timing. Mutsun had this as well where derivational elements would cause a stress shift and horrible things would happen to vowel. Chinese has the weird thing that it does accept phonetic loans, but phonetic loans sometimes just get truncated to one character. In English, a lot of foreign names are just loaned in, particularly place names and language names.
