For Indians coming from that culture to become a Christian meant not just to follow Jesus, but actually like ditching all of that cultural heritage. So he became kind of self-critical about this and he never ditched his faith. He started to write about what are there different ways of forming Christian communities around Jesus that have a different relationship to the culture around them.
