The Role of the Church in the Reformation
When Protestant denominations arose, there was that competition within the church. So leading to less regulation. I think this is what we'd see in other countries being good places to live instead of the one you grew up in. That could be this form of competition. The Protestant church did away with much of the ceremonial excess of the Catholic church. It's like festivals and like these days. Well, they talked about all the festivals and the fasting and everything. They were living in a world of much higher interest rates.

In this episode of Made You Think, we discussed “The Sovereign Individual,” a book published in 1996 predicting how the Internet would change our lives and work over the following decades. Some of it’s come true, some of it is yet to come, but no book has made either of us think so much about how technology might destroy what we think of as citizenship, work, travel, community, and life.
