The Story of Abu Bakr
Ibn Batuta was not a merchant, but a faqi, a scholar versed in Islamic law. He would have crossed the equator at the border of modern-day Somalia and Kenya. Next on the agenda was Mombasa, about 600 miles or 1,000 kilometers from Mogadishu. Ibn Vittuta said it was quote, one of the finest and most beautifully built towns. The city was famed for its dome-envolted mosque which was made of coral stone.
