Nostalgia - A Strange Disease That Was Infecting Swiss Mercenaries
Johannes Hoffer was a medical student when he heard stories of mercenaries dying from homesickness. He decided to write his dissertation on the disease and called it nostalgia, which is roughly translated as ache for home. Symptoms included sadness, disturbed sleep, weakness, hunger, thirst, heart palpitations,. And quote stupidity of the mind attending to nothing hardly other than the idea of the fatherland.
