The core of the chinese empire would be certainly further to the east, and that questionable sort of border lines have waxed and waned uer literally thousands of years. Is it fair to say that china's western boundary historically been its most fluid boundary? I think that's right, yes. It's still a a bit of aa, careful and restrained, and doesn't go rushing in, and certainly not militarily, into this part of the world. But what it's willing to do now and what it's able to do, is far greater than what it was able to do even just a decade ago.
