Listening to the Past and the Present in a Bilingual Environment

The auditory object is not present but is made up of traces and events because it is stretched out in time. The phenomenologist Alvin Noe gives a really good example of this where he says, I think he was in Germany at the time. And he speaks German and he also speaks English and he was going on public transportation and he had been speaking one language before for a while. So he was in a mental set of thinking in one language and expecting his interlocutors to use that language.
