The Unreasonable Effectiveness of Mathematics in the Physical World
i'm going to pick it up where sam is talking about that most famous of papers, eugene wigners, on the unreasonable effectiveness of mathematics in the physical sciences. I want to linger on this question of the about the primacy of mathematics andhe strange utility of mathematics. And i just wanted to get your reaction to a an idea that i believe i got from a cognitive scientist who lived during the forties or fifties. He speculated that there must be some isomorphism between brain processes that represent the physical world and processes in the world that are represented. Does that go any direction toward resolving this mystery for ou? Or do you think it exceeds that?
