The Methodologies of Intellectual History

In the 1960s, figures such as John Pocock and Quentin Skinner and Peter Laslet really made us understand that all figures in the history of political thought need to be understood in their context. I think probably another point, maybe in this, this possibly does start to stretch the those methodologies a little bit. Part of my argument would be that the strategies of Travis to his wife and of one of his mistresses, a courtesan who was involved with Agnes Willoughby can be taken not just as context but perhaps even as texts in intellectual history.
