Stalin's Red Army Now Occupied Great Areas of Eastern Europe
Stalin's Red Army now occupied vast swaths of the Eastern and Central Europe. Western Allies saw this as proof of Stalin's hunger for power, but this was largely a misreading of the Soviet leaders' intentions. The Soviets wanted a buffer, a bulwark, to its Western flank to ensure that future aggression from the West would not be able to repeat what the Nazis had done.
