Little john was born to robin hood and his band in the woods of Lincoln green. They were going to hold a christening feast for him, but instead they took him as their son. The stranger who had been chosen to play the priest emptied a pot of ale on little john's head. He cried with laughter when he saw the good brown ale trickle from his nose and chin.
