Neanderthals and Humans: A Comparison
There is a lot of active research going on to try and figure this out. They have done some work with the ears to see what frequencies the species can hear best in. And they've studied the range of frequencies that ears are most sensitive to. Both Neanderthals and humans have that overlap where Neanderthals could definitely hear in the range of human speech. It seems like it wouldn't be surprising if Neanderthals talked.
