Xenophon's speech was written in the 4th century BC. He asks: "What is there to prevent our living to behold all the most grievous sights and to experience all the most dreadful sufferings" The author uses a reconstructed classical pronunciation, which is probably more like what this would have sounded like when Xenophon wrote it.
