Lincoln said no, because if we do this, they're going to come back next year for Cuba. And the next year for Tera del Fuego, and it's never going to end. To me, this is like Winston Churchill in May of 1940. He looked across the channel and said he's gone that far. He cannot go any farther. It's as important as D-Day in its way. Because if an American president had ratified the extension of slavery, then the entire anti-slavery character of the Constitution just ends.
