The Rise of the Maori Protest Movement in the 1960s

In the late 1960s, there was this very strong collaboration taking place between Packet Hill or European New Zealanders and Maori protest groups. One significant event that really brought them together was the exclusion of Maori rugby players from the 1960 all black tour of South Africa. They were still actively working to incorporate these radical intellectual traditions, particularly Marxism and feminism into the Maori struggle. And then while this is going on also the growth in the influence of individuals like Gaghiya Tehawekotuku and Tarnawateri.
