The Epidemiology of Malignant Hyperthermia in Pigs

The mortality rate is less than 5% in countries that have access to dantraline. There have been a number of case reports of ECMO being used as a rescue for patients who have severe arrhythmias associated with MH. It's definitely not just a human phenomenon but the susceptibility to volatile anasetics and sucks is a hallmark of the condition. Probably one in two or one in three thousand people is susceptible to MH, so chances are if you're a practicing anesthesiologist or a CRNA listening there's a really good chance that you've taken care of a lot of MH susceptible patients and just not known it.
