In outlander, we have a strong, decisive woman. She is unflappable, courageous and smart alec. And she gets to go through this edward waverley journey from the point of view of a modern woman. The way this is pulled off is some sort of unexplained magic that she goes to a standing stone circle,. It somehow transports her through time, and she lands up in 17 forty three. This is just a strange contrast, contradiction, i think, in the story. But in a way, the writers use it, at some moments to their advantage in really interesting ways.
