The Tension in the Bible
The Tower of Babel shows you that it's a powerful image because it tries to take one human name, one human identity and raise it up into heaven. In some ways, Babel is the opposite of the heavenly Jerusalem. And so we see an image of Cain building that civilizational thing, building that city leads to the flood. We see an images of that in Babel as well. It actually helps you see how it is possible to have homes.
