What's the Point of Growth in Ethiopia?

The idea that if you have growth, then of course, everybody will get along just fine and er and live happily ever after is a hilarious idea. I mean, ugoslavia, you may remember, was the most prosperous country in the eastern block by quite some margin. And it fell apart in the wake of the collapse of the soviet empire with astonishing speed. So my sense is that the hypothesis was always a wrong one, that if you only had economic growth, then the ethnic conflicts would diminish. Actually, ther there's an alternate theory, isn't me?
