Apeuliu is known for his novel, which goes by two different names. It's sometimes thought of as a kind of covert way, a kind of analogy of the life of a slave. The main character, lucius, is turned into a donkey or an ass not that far into the novel and it's about his adventures. A very dark fon novel, very dark at times, irat. And then at the end, it becomes very religious, sacred in tone.
