Is the Subject a Proximate?

In a story about a bear and a human, the humans more likely to be proximate in general. And if you have two obvious in your transitive clause, then you're typically going to default to direct rather than indirect inverse marking. So figuring out who's doing what to whom with two obvious might be fun sometimes. Yeah, well, I mean, it is the kind of thing that optimality theory is designed to describe. But, you know, I have my views on optimality theory maybe someday if we ever, if I decide to do any kind of theory rant in the future.
