The Importance of Permission in Open Source
The BSD license is the reason that we all have an internet where all the computers can talk to each other and do so in the same way. TCP IP I think is actually a great example of why the world absolutely needs permissive licensing not just copy left. It's like probably in the end more people than care about playing video games on an alternative OS you know everybody who watches streaming video cares about being able to watch it economically with open source software instead of not. This seems to me to be an example of the kind of thing where open source users say wouldn't open source be better if everything only worked the way that I like things to work which is not the strength of open source
