Cognitive Load Theory
Cognitive load theory says that if this limit is surpassed, information is not assimilated into long-term memory. So we have to break things down because there's only so much we can handle at one time. The likelihood of landing at the sweet spot in real life is very, very small. And it's the difference between working through something challenging and building your confidence and abilities to do it in a stressful environment.
