As Welch had done, Gerstner attacked the elitism at IBM. Like Enron, the whole culture was about grappling for personal status within the company. Gerstner fired politicians and rewarded people who helped their colleagues. He also stopped IBM sales divisions from putting each other down to win business for themselves.
