I personally would rather sprune something than carry 10 litres of water three or four times a day to it every single day through a hot spell. What you have to remember is that nothing has ever died from a haircut basically. If you cut its head off then yes it will die but if you just get it so just do a little bit. Don't go quite as hard until you're confident and you're sure that it goes back. Some plants are designed to be background singers while others, like the Nissar which catches litter in supermarket car parks, can make good windbreaks. I think what you're doing Catherine is you're falling into the into the plants. I am 100%
