The book came being as a sort of group memoir, group biographya. As i began working on the what was really the political history of higher education in the 19 sixties, i realized that i would have to look beyond just this cohort of left wing, radical academics and look at universities as a whole. I'm not somebody who starts with a thesis and theni tries to fit it, all the information i get into that thesis. Which is what happened.
