How the Digital Public Infrastructure Can Democratize the Payment System
The digital public infrastructure can actually democratize, says Samar. Peer-to-peer transactions mean you can directly transact with your vegetable vendor and your auto-richure driver without necessarily having a state or bank intermediary have to go through the transaction. So far I believe for India's set of UPI payments about 6.5 to 7 percent of the people account for about 45 percent of the spend right now which is very consistent with the rest of India. The elite will get it first but just think how quickly how rapidly access has gone to the bottom of Indian society.
