The word robot was coined by the playwright karl chappek, who wrote a play in 19 20 called r u r rossam's universal robots. It also gave rise to another term that i'm particularly fond of which is asamovian, referring to the writings of isaac asamov. When you use the term robot, you usually mean something made of metal and not organic material. That is, an artificial being that's organic. You would call something else, like an android, let's say.
