The End of the Roman Empire in 550
In 527, Justinian came to the throne of the Eastern Empire. He set about reconquering the western half of what had once been the Roman Empire. The Plague of Justinian was a preview of the Black Death that would devastate Europe in the 14th century. It ravaged the entire Mediterranean basin and beyond and killed millions of people.
