The Short Story and the Loneliness

There's a lot of bovary actually in that going back to the 19th century, the fantasies and the disappointments. I'm wondering if this business of being ignored has got something to do with what I call aboutness. It seems that readers are fixated on what's it about? The first thing that people will say when they're picking up a short story or a novel. But there's so much more to reading and to the so-called story than the aboutness. And we've got these writers and again how many of them are women but they're not all women who are interested in things that are not about anything. That's everything.
