The Power of Next Generation Sequencing
Next generation sequencing and the ability to kind of rapidly do single-cell genomics. The data type that you get is a vector in 20,000 dimensions. And what you're measuring is an integer for each gene That tells you when I grab that cell and sequenced it, how many copies of every mRNA transcript were there. It seems to map pretty well that cells of the same type have very similar gene expression. You can see this whole continuum of time through this passage of cell division.
