Using Random Shocks and Remixes in Your Commuting

Complex problems have so many possible solutions that it's impossible even for a computer to check them all. Computer scientists often use the tactic of stepping back and adding some randomness part way through their search. Those shocks are there to prevent the algorithm getting stuck on a bad solution. This might seem a long way from our everyday concerns, but same logic is at play in most humdrum circumstances such as our daily commute.
