In January 2000 John was offered a job at Platinum Asset Management in Canberra. He had applied for about a dozen jobs and hadn't received a single interview. A woman on the ferry who turned out to be a headhunter said she could catch him an interview. And so literally that day I had an interview with Kia Nielsen and he offered me the job. It really was that left field. But it was just dumb luck.
