The Proportionality of Violence
I was once asked by the chief of staff to sit on a group in the army, which was supposed to look at these type of questions from a combined legal moral approach. And we created a thought exercise for proportionality. Let's assume that there is a terrorist in Gaza today, who is planning an attack tomorrow, somewhere in the United States. We now have a window of opportunity to kill that guy. All of the victims and people involved are single males above the age of 18. So no children involved, no families involved. This is the thought experiment. I ask ourselves, how many similar 18 plus year old single civilians are we willing to have done?
