Johnton: The book is actually two books in one, more or less. I went around the world im trying to follow the trail that butler and his generation of marines had blazed. So it was disturbingly easy to draw parallels between te the period that i'm writing about, and to day. It's got a major historical component. And at the beginning, i thought like i was going to be writing a book about how the wars of smedley butler's day created like the neo liberal empire under president hilary clinton.
