P.V. Hickey wrote for the science division of the New York World publication. Upon visiting Mumbler's studio, Hickey discovered he was charging $10 per photograph. A young man working as an assistant claimed that the art was so valuable, Mumbler could probably charge $1,000 per picture. He immediately went to the mayor of New York and filed a complaint. Here is his sworn affidavit from March of 1869.
